At West Virginia University, our highest priority is safeguarding the health, well-being and academic success of all Mountaineers.

As the novel coronavirus continues to spread, we are taking advice from public health experts and enacting precautionary measures to protect students, faculty, staff and our community. The most up-to-date information about WVU’s response to COVID-19 can be found at

Getting outdoors is a great way to stay healthy. But during the COVID-19 pandemic, we all need to be safe and informed. So, please recreate responsibly at Falling Run.

  • Plan before you go. Check the Falling Run website for potential trail closures
  • Face masks are required in all WVU outdoor spaces where there may be interaction with others.
  • Practice physical distancingKeep at least 6 feet away from other people at all times.
  • Don't let your dog greet other trail users and always keep pets leashed.
  • Avoid touching shared surfaces like handrails, maps and signposts. To reduce the spread of the virus, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when you're outdoors.
  • Know your limits to prevent accidents and injury – it’ll reduce the load for urgent care resources.
  • Share the trail by staying to the right and maintaining personal space. If you’re on a bicycle, let others know when you’re passing.
  • Stay local. Don’t travel from outside of Morgantown WV to get to Falling Run.
  • Visit Falling Run’s trails at off-peak times to minimize contact with others.
